College volleyball: Lady Jays lose in five at St. Cloud
ST. CLOUD — The Minnesota West Lady Jays volleyball team stormed into St. Cloud Saturday hoping to win their final regular season match and enter regional tournament play on a roll.
Close, but not quite.
St. Cloud Tech defeated the Lady Jays 3-2. West lost the first two games 9-25 and 20-25, won the next two 25-18 and 25-18, and lost the fifth, 9-15.
“We’re coming off a big win (Friday against MState-Fergus Falls). We were really looking for another win today on the road,” said head coach Marie Johnson.
Minnesota West got off to a slow start in St. Cloud, but rallied afterward. The Lady Jays led the final set early but couldn’t hold it.
Rebecca Kazemba and Brooke Henning had nine kills apiece for West on Saturday, and teammate Kristen Andersen added six.
Morgan Harberts had 29 set assists and four ace serves, and Henning had three ace serves.
Henning also had 13 digs. Paige Kinley had 12 digs while Harberts and Brittney Hermeling had 11 apiece.
Anderson was credited with four blocks.
Regional tournament competition begins on Nov. 7. West’s opponent and first-game location is yet to be determined.
