Playoff amateur baseball is just around the corner.
The final day of the 2019 regular season is Sunday. Beginning next Wednesday, teams begin a best-of-three playoff series as the countdown begins to state tournament berths.
No league titles have been decided yet. But through July 10, the Fairmont Martins hold down the top spot in the First Nite League with a 13-4 record. Windom is at 11-4, Jackson 10-5, Lakefield 6-9, Heron Lake 3-12 and Worthington 0-15.
In the Gopher League, the Milroy Irish are 15-1 while Luverne is 13-3, Pipestone 12-4, Hadley 8-7, Adrian 4-11, Tracy 3-12 and Ruthton 2-13.
Lakefield, Heron Lake and Worthington are already locked in as the fourth, fifth and sixth seeds, respectively, in the First Nite League. Hadley (No. 4) and Heron Lake (5) is the only league matchup set in the Gopher League at the moment.
The league champion and the runner-up in the Gopher League will get a bye to the eight-team Region 13C tournament. The league champion in the First Nite League will also get a league tournament bye.
League playoff games will begin Wednesday, July 17, and continue as needed on July 19 or July 20, and July 21. The matchups will pit the second seed of the First Nite League against the seventh seed of the Gopher League as well as 3FN vs. 6G, 4FN vs. 5G, 3G vs. 6FN and 4G vs. 5FN.
