Morningside tops GPAC poll
SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) chose defending NAIA national champion Morningside as it’s pre-season pick to win the league football championship recent at its annual media day event.
In the coaches’ poll, Morningside gathered nine of 10 first-place votes. Northwestern was second, followed by Dordt, Midland, Briar Cliff, Doane, Hastings, Concordia, Dakota Wesleyan and Jamestown.
There was also a media poll taken. Again, Morningside was atop the list, getting 11 of 12 first-place votes. The other teams followed along the same order.
Eligibility meetings at District 518
WORTHINGTON -- All students in grades 7-12 interested in participating in athletics at Worthington District 518 are required to attend the all-sports eligibility meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 6. The general meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the WHS gym.
Fall sports athletes will meet with their coaches to discuss team information after the general meeting.
Sports physicals will be offered to student-athletes who need them. Beginning at 4:45 p.m., physicals will be available for $25.
Students grades 9-12 must complete an ImPact Test (concussion) during the designated time for their sport. Volleyball, girls tennis and girls soccer is at 5:30 p.m. Winter and spring sports are at 7 p.m. Football, boys soccer and cross country is at 7:30 p.m.
Burgers, chips and drink will be served in the lobby from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the lobby.
Bluejay Scramble is Aug. 10
WORTHINGTON -- The Bluejay 4-Person Scramble is Saturday, Aug. 10, at GreatLIFE Worthington Golf Course.
Registration is from 8 to 8:30 a.m. for the 9 a.m. shotgun start. Cost is $75 per person and $300 per team and includes green fees, cart, meal and door and hole prizes.
