Texas man lands record-setting largemouth bass using a chicken McNugget as bait
DALLAS - After Matthew McNellis and his girlfriend tried every lure in their tackle box and still came up emptyhanded, they figured they'd try the one piece of bait they had left in their boat.
That piece of bait? A McDonald's chicken McNugget.
"My girlfriend said why don't you just try one of those chicken McNuggets," McNellis told a local television station.
And wouldn't you know it, McNellis applied the bait and landed a record-setting 11 pound, 24 1/2" largemouth bass.
"That big 'ol fish smacked a hold of it," McNellis said. "We thought it was a catfish it was so big."
After taking pictures with the record catch, McNellis and his girlfriend decided to release the bass back into the lake.
"I can almost guarantee you that fish will never eat another McNugget," McNellis said. "Next time I might try some of Wendy's seasoned fries."
