WINDOM -- Windom Area High School hosted the first ever Big South Conference Showcase on Saturday featuring cross-divisional conference matchups. The event will replace the old Big South Conference Crossover that took place at the end of the season and pitted equally ranked cross-divisional foes.

Luverne will be the answer to the trivia question “Which team won the first ever Big South Conference Showcase match” as it kicked off the action on Saturday by defeating Fairmont 25-13, 11-25, 25-17, 25-9.

Lexi Ferrell had 20 kills, five solo blocks, and was 17-for-17 serving with three aces for Luverne, while Sierra Schmuck had 22 assists, and was 31-for-31 serving with five aces.

Worthington picked off Waseca in five sets, winning the first 25-22 before dropping the second 20-25. The Trojans came back to win 25-17 in the third, but Waseca took the fourth 25-14. Worthington sealed the victory with a 17-15 victory after fighting off two match-point chances for Waseca in the fifth-and-final set.

Stephie Bauman was 14-for-15 serving with four aces and had 11 set assists, while Nyamer Diew led the Trojans with 14 kills, and Anneke Weg led with 18 set assists and had five kills.

Pipestone Area defeated non-conference foe Martin County West in four sets. The Arrows controlled the first two sets, winning 25-9 and 25-16, but MCW won the third 25-21 before PA closed it out 25-21 in the fourth.

Marshall defeated Blue Earth Area 25-6, 25-11, 25-18.

Jackson County Central topped St. Peter in four sets 25-11, 25-15, 21-25, 25-20. Lauren Murphy had 31 assists and eight kills for the Huskies, while Alaina Wolff had 15 digs and nine kills, and Tiara Menke had seven kills, six digs, and five aces.

The hosts -- Windom Area -- closed the show with a 3-0 sweep over New Ulm. The Eagles took care of business in the 25-12, 25-11, 25-17 victory.
