Tuesday sports roundup: Wieneke lifts Adrian; Pipestone Area trims SWC in barnburner

ADRIAN — Ryan Wieneke scored 32 points on 10 of 13 shooting and grabbed 11 rebounds, carrying Adrian to a home win over Luverne in high school boys basketball Tuesday.
The next highest scorer on Adrian was Skylar Polzine with 12.
Adrian got off to a molten-hot start, putting up 51 points in the first half. From there, things got much colder, but the lead was too much.
Luverne’s attack was better balanced but less effective. Derek Lundgren scored 11 points, while Cole Clausen and Eli Haugom added 10.

Pipestone 65, SWC 64
EDGERTON -- In a thriller, Pipestone Area’s Carter Colemer iced the game by making both his free throws with nine seconds left to go up 65-61 against Southwest Minnesota Christian. The Eagles would make a buzzer beating 3 to end the game, but fell short to the Arrows.
Tyl Woelber excelled, scoring 19 points, pulling down 6 rebounds, with 4 assists, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. Teammates Colemer and Josh Tinklenberg added 16, and 12 points respectively.
For SWC, AJ Vanderby finished with a double-double, finishing with 20 points, and he pulled down 10 boards for the Eagles. SWC had three other boys finish with nine or more points as Avery Pater scored 11, Trey Huisken scored 9, and Jacob Van Dam also scored 9. Logan Walhof added 8 rebounds and 7 assists for SWC.
Both teams shot well and kept it close as neither team took a lead greater than five points. Both teams were within a percent shooting-wise as Pipestone shot 45 percent and Southwest Christian shot 44 percent.

ELLSWORTH — Jax Wysong recorded 22 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists, leading Hills-Beaver Creek to a road win over Ellsworth.
Preston Wilhelmi and Wyatt Westrum added 14 for HBC.
For Ellsworth, Brandon Kramer scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

SLAYTON — Brady Rasmussen had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Red Rock Central in a road win over Murray County Central.
Sam Hansen added 20 points and four steals for Red Rock Central.
For MCC, Mason Woldt scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Spencer Wajer scored 19 points.

MOUNTAIN LAKE -- Mountain Lake Area’s Weston Osland sank two of his three free throws, after being fouled on a desperation heave, to take the lead with one second left.
Osland and Abraham Stoesz both scored 15 points for the Wolverines, and teammate Spencer Khamvongsa scored 12 points. Stoesz added five assists, and posted three steals as well for MLA.
Luke Gilbertson and Kaden Elder scored 23 and 15, respectively, for the Eagles.
MLA out-rebounded Windom 35-24.
The Wolverines improve to 10-5 on the season. The Eagles fall to 10-5.

HARRIS, IOWA -- Bubba Sohn and Bret Sohn were Harris Lake Park’s top scorers with Bubba scoring 16 points, and Bret scoring 15, nine of which came on free throws (9 of 10), and recording four steals.
Trinity Christian’s Byron Maassen scored 12 points.
The Wolves were down one with one minute and thirty seconds remaining when H-LP got a steal and made the go-ahead layup. Bret Sohn was then able to ice the game by making his free throws.

OKABENA -- Junior guard Andrew Madsen scored 17 points, dished off six assists and came up with four steals to lead Heron Lake-Okabena to a five-point victory over Edgerton in a game which was closely-contested the entire way.
Freshman guard Eli Fest and junior center Lee Gunther each scored 12 points for the Wildcats (4-10, 2-5), while senior forward Ben Sheldahl contributed nine points and eight rebounds.
Madsen scored 11 of his points in the first half, sparking HL-O to several early leads.
Edgerton (0-11, 0-7) was led by junior guard Tannan Groen and senior guard Marcus Vander Lugt with 16 points each. Groen connected on four three-pointers in the game (two in each half) and Vander Lugt drilled a pair in the second half as the Flying Dutchmen rallied from a nine-point deficit.

TRACY — MACCRAY made its living on the free throw line, hitting 17 of 23 attempts in a close win over Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.
Kelby Jaenish led MACCRAY’s balanced attack with 12 points and 8 rebounds. Braden Hoekstra stuffed the stat sheet with 9 points, 5 assists and 8 rebounds.
For TMB, Moses Dolan led the way with 13 points, four assists and seven rebounds. In a close game where every point counts, TMB’s 8 of 18 free throw shooting made a difference.

MOUNTAIN LAKE — Jenneel Rodney scored 15 points and Margo Stoesz added 12 for Mountain Lake Area in a close home win.
Mountain Lake led the whole game, but Windom Area rallied back late in the second half to make it a one-possession game.
Windom’s Autumn Hauge scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half and Maurissa Isaacs led Windom with 18 points.

SIBLEY — Becca Knobloch put in an efficient performance for Central Lyon in a win over Sibley-Ocheyedan, converting 7 of 11 shots in 16 points to go along with 8 rebounds.
Sibley-Ocheyedan was doomed by 30 turnovers along with 15 for 49 shooting. Carley Seivert led the team with 14 points and Kelli Greenfield added 11 points and 12 rebounds.

FLANDREAU, S.D. -- Joci Oye scored a game-high 12 points to lead Luverne to a victory.
Sierra Schmuck added nine points, while Brooklynn Ver Steeg had eight for the Cardinals, who led 24-5 at halftime.
Rachel Oftedahl had eight rebounds for Luverne, while Mallory Thorson had six steals. Jadyn Anderson and Ver Steeg each had four steals.

Camryn Bunting finished with seven points and 17 rebounds for W-WG, while Theresa Merrick and Woelber each had three assists.

Levi Ellingston pinned BOLD’s Levi Manderscheid in 2:50 at 120 pounds. Tyler Vandendriessche also got a pin at 138, in 1:26 over Jordan Amberg. Trevor Eisfeld scored a 21-5 technical fall in 4:21 against Jaden Huebsch and Sam Bauer pinned BOLD’s Austin Einerson in 1:57.

LUVERNE -- Pipestone Area beat Luverne 50-24.
Key matches came at 138 where Eric Lange scored a 13-2 major decision over the Cardinals’ Tucker Oeltjenbruns, and at 145 where teammate Carson Wipf won by 13-1 major decision over Dalton DeSollar.
At 152 pounds, Luverne’s Jed Dooyema pinned Angel Campos in 1:46.
