Monday sports roundup: New Ulm skates past WHS boys hockey team
New Ulm 7, Worthington 0
NEW ULM -- Kyle Tauer had a hat trick as the New Ulm boys hockey team skated to a 7-0 shutout over the Worthington Trojans on Monday night.
The score was the same as the first time the two teams met, on Jan. 16.
The Trojans played fairly well, despite the score, said WHS head coach Paul Olsen. But the team didn’t get any favors, since the game was played on an Olympic-sized sheet of ice.
“When you got a fast team, they’re pretty hard to keep up with,” said Olsen. “It’s hard to compete with speed when you’ve got that much space.”
New Ulm attempted 59 shots in the contest, to Worthington’s nine.
Olsen credited goalkeeper for playing well.
“Facing that many shots, it’s kind of an uphill battle,” he said.
