WORTHINGTON -- A new and large scoreboard enhances the Minnesota West Community and Technical College softball field, and kitty-korner to it is a new and large scoreboard adorning the school’s baseball complex.

The baseball scoreboard was fixed just beyond the leftfield fence on Wednesday.

Both scoreboards prominently display the words, “Minnesota West,” and above them the words, “Bluejays” and “Lady Jays.” They allow fans not just to see the score of the game, but follow the score by innings.

Bob Purcell, men’s athletic director at the school, hopes that when sports fans attend games at the two sites, at least one good thought will occur to them. That is, “People at this school must care about themselves.”

He added, “Not only that. But it’s something the community can be proud of.”

Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka, women’s athletic director, pointed out that youth baseball and softball players compete on the fields in the summer. They, too, should be excited to see the new scoreboards.

“It just gives them a good impression of Minnesota West and the athletics here,” she said.
