SWC 3, Edgerton 0

The South Section 3A high school girls volleyball tournament got under way Monday night with play-in games, and in Edgerton seventh-seeded Southwest Christian defeated 10th-seeded Edgerton Public in a crosstown clash.

Southwest prevailed 25-9, 25-21 and 25-22 to advance to the South Section 3A semifinals Friday against No. 2 Tracy-Milroy-Balaton.

Southwest Christian got an error-free serving night from three players, as Makenzie Snyder put 18 of 18 in play, Jazlynn Prins was 12-for-12 and Hannah Pap was 11-for-11. Prins had 12 kills while Bella Niemeyer had nine and Maren Nerem six.

Nerem also had eight blocks. Prins had 14 digs and Snyder, who also had 22 set assists, had 12 digs.

For Edgerton, Reece Wassink was 7-for-9 serving with three aces, and she also got eight kills. Lauren DeJong had three ace blocks, Brinna Bloemendaal had nine digs and Jayme Bleyenberg had nine set assists.

H-BC 3, Ellsworth 1

HILLS -- In setting up a South Section 3A semifinal match Friday with top-seeded Adrian, eighth-seeded Hills-Beaver Creek maneuvered past ninth-seeded Ellsworth 25-11, 25-21, 26-28, 25-22.

Kenadie Fick was 23-for-23 serving with five aces and Kailey Rozeboom was 20-for-20 with one ace. Whitney Elbers had 20 kills and four blocks. Abby Knobloch and Annie Bos had eight and six digs, respectively.

Rozeboom also had 23 set assists.

Morgan Dreesen was 14-for-14 serving with 24 set assists and nine digs for Ellsworth. Kallie Chapa was 16-for-17 serving with 15 digs and eight kills. And Ashlyn Meester was 12-for-13 serving with 10 kills.
