FULDA -- With a bunch of state-ranked wrestlers that hardly can be counted on two hands and a No. 2 ranking in Minnesota Class AA, Fairmont/Martin County West rolled to victory over Worthington Tuesday in the Fulda/Murray County Central Triangular.
The Trojans won just two matches -- the first and the last -- in a 63-9 loss.
Ethan Meyer defeated F/MCW’s Cooper Steuber 10-3 at 106 pounds. And at 285, the Trojans’ Kyle Mullaney pinned Everardo Hernandez in just 48 seconds.
In a match between two solid matmen at 145 pounds, F/MCW’s Connor Simmonds, who is ranked second in the state at 138, scored an 11-2 major decision over Worthington’s Damon Schutz. At 220 pounds, F/MCW’s Jacob Rahn, ranked fifth at 195, defeated Worthington’s Cole Hennings by a 12-3 major decision.
Hennings is coming off a 220-pound individual championship in Saturday’s Big South Conference tournament.
In other matches, Fairmont/MCW defeated Fulda/MCC 81-0 and Worthington beat F/MCC 59-14.
One of the better matches in the F/MCW vs. F/MCC matchup occurred at 152 pounds where Cale Steuber decisioned Rylan Behnke 16-9. In Worthington’s win over F/MCC, Meyer (106), Oliver Ortiz Perez (120), Jose Martinez (132), Chase Byrne (138), Schutz (145), Jaden Hennings (152), Kent Lais (160), Thomas Lais (160), Tanner Hennings (195) and Cole Hennings (220) had their hands raised for the Trojans. Meyer, Jaden Hennings, Kent Lais, Tanner and Cole Hennings all pinned their opponents.
Aiden Lorenzen (1131), Carson Klein (126) and Christian Kuball (170) won for F/MCC.
ADRIAN -- Minneota edged Adrian/Ellsworth 34-33 at the A/E Triangular, clinching the team victory at 220 pounds as Jackson Esping pinned the Dragons’ Beau Bullerman in 1:12.
Adrian/Ellsworth secured wins with Brayan Anaya (113 pounds), Logan Sherer (138), Logan Taylor (145), Cameron Wieneke (170) and Preston Nelson 182). Anaya, Taylor, Wieneke and Nelson had falls.
In other matches, Adrian/Ellsworth topped Windom/Mountain Lake 51-23 and Minneota beat Windom/ML 42-28.
Anaya (113), Breyer Hieronimus (126), Sherer (138), Jaren Winselman (195) and Bullerman (220) had falls for A/E against W/ML. The Cobras got falls from Tucker Renquist (106) and Caden Swoboda (120).
W/ML’s Brett Willaby (145), Alex Altman (195) and Eli Mutz (285) pinned their Minneota opponents.

FAIRMONT -- With a strong first half, the Fairmont Cardinals kept Worthington at bay. The Trojans outscored FHS in the second half by taking the ball to the basket, but a flat first half left them too much of a deficit to overcome.
Worthington’s top scorer, Terbuto Ochothow, had just three points in the first half. But he finished with 23 and grabbed eight rebounds.
Brock Bruns scored 15 points, with six rebounds, for WHS.
Zach Jorgensen led Fairmont with 19 points. Carter Bell had 15 and Wyatt Frank had 13.
Fairmont improved to 6-4 with the victory. Worthington dropped to 5-8.

MARSHALL -- The No. 5-ranked team in Minnesota Class AAA, the Marshall Tigers broke open a 12-point game at halftime to outscore Jackson County Central 53-28 in the second half.
Rudy Voss scored 43 points for the Huskies, but that wasn’t enough.
Noah Puetz tallied 19 points for the Tigers while teammates Bryce Lance and Matthew Hmielewski scored 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Andrew Hesebeck had eight points for JCC.

EDGERTON -- Southwest Christian won the rebound war and the turnover war in routing Adrian/Ellsworth. With a 35-21 rebounding edge and just nine turnovers to A/E’s 23, the Eagles improved to 13-0.
Micah Schaap scored 20 points, Jacob Van Dam had 16, Jacob Raak scored 13 and Kade Fey had 11.
Van Dam contributed seven assists.
Noah Reyne scored 11 points for Adrian/Ellsworth. Payton Lewis had 10. The Dragons played without one of their best scorers, Ian Stamer.

HILLS -- Kyle Kueter had a double-double for Hills Beaver Creek with 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Patriots fell to Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey.
Abraham Stoesz had 15 points for the Wolverines. Jon Faber scored 11 and Sam Paulson scored 11.
Zander Wysong scored nine for the Patriots. H-BC travels to Canton, S.D. on Thursday.

REDWOOD FALLS -- Bryant Haas led all scorers with 23 for Redwood Valley as the Cardinals took down Big South opponent Windom Area.
Carson Woodford scored 16 points for the Cardinals and had eight rebounds. Carter Guetter scored 16 and Alex Lang scored 13.
Sam Doorenbos led the Eagles with 19 points. Sophomore center Dylan Serreyn had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Junior guard Austin Doorenbos scored 14.
The Eagles play next on Thursday as they host a boy/girl doubleheader against Worthington.

EDGERTON -- Heron Lake Okabena/Fulda withstood a frenzied Edgerton comeback to earn a Red Rock Conference victory.
Brandon Hinkeldey scored 15 for the Coyotes, Jaeden Strandberg scored 13, and Tyler Madison scored 11 and had 10 rebounds. Eli Fest contributed nine points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Mason Gilbertson had 14 points for the Flying Dutchmen. Nolan Buckridge scored 10, Gabe Gilbertson scored nine and Keegan Fey added nine.

Haley Garman had 28 points and Hannah Schjenken scored 15 for Redwood Valley.

BLUE EARTH -- The Worthington Trojans gymnastics team outscored Blue Earth Area 141.475 to 129.05.
Gracia Elias won the all-around with a 35.75 score while winning the balance beam competition (9.3) and tying for first in the vault with teammate Hali Bullerman, each with a 9.225 score. Elias also placed third on the uneven parallel bars (8.2) and floor exercise (9.025).
Trojan Mekyla Nystrom was second in the all-around (35.075) after winning the bars (8.7) and placing second on the vault (9.15) and floor (9.075). Worthington’s Presley Eggers captured first on the floor (9.1) and was third on vault (9.0).
Kara Thuringer was third in the all-around (34.35) and was third on the beam (8.6). Bullerman added a second-place finish on bars (8.6) and teammate Adamari Rangel was second on beam (9.175).
Worthington scored 134.15 points in the junior varsity portion of the meet and Blue Earth Area scored 82.4.
