ADRIAN -- Strong pitching performances and timely hitting helped the Adrian A’s amateur baseball team win two weekend games to improve to 3-1 in league play and 4-1 overall.

In a Friday game at Pipestone against the Pipestone A’s, Brent Hokeness rapped a two-run triple in the top of the 10th inning to break a 1-1 tie.

Jake Stamer hurled five innings and was the winning pitcher, keeping Pipestone scoreless down the stretch and striking out six batters. Tucker Sorenson pitched the first five innings and struck out 13.

In another game on Sunday, Adrian hosted Ruthton and emerged with a 5-3 victory. Trailing 3-2 in the eighth inning, Adrian used a walk to Brandon Veen, a bunt by Torey Rogers that advanced the runner, and a double down the left field line by Mike Preuss that evened the score at 3-3. The next hitter, Sorenson, belted a two-run home run.

Jacob Barker was the winning pitcher, going the complete nine innings and striking out 13.

Adrian will be in action Sunday in Adrian for a 2 p.m. game against Luverne.
