The St. James Area girls tennis team reminded all southwest Minnesota opponents of its 2020 prowess on Saturday, beating Luverne 5-2.

The Saints, long a southwest Minnesota girls tennis power, split the singles matches and swept the doubles matches to hand a strong LHS team a rare regular season loss. Ellie Becker and Jaelyn Haler won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles for St. James in straight sets.

However, every other match went the full three sets. Luverne secured wins at No. 3 singles as Ainslie Robinson defeated Mya Hanson 7-6, 2-6, 6-4. And the Cardinals’ Mia Wenzel won at No. 4 singles against Eva Romsdahl 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.
