WABASSO -- Both teams entered the game undefeated, and Wabasso held the honor of being ranked No. 7 in Minnesota Class 1A. But Murray County Central was the victor, 20-12, Saturday afternoon in a highly-anticipated high school football contest.
Blake Schmitz scored three touchdowns as the Rebels ran their record to 3-0. Schmitz tallied scores on carries of 1, 17 and 1 yard in the tight game. Nick Marotzke scored twice for Wabasso on carries of 4 and 1 yard.
Neither team led by more than a touchdown.
Team totals showed MCC with 16 first downs to Wabasso's 11 and with 2325 yards rushing compared to Wabasso's 101. Wabasso passed for 100 yards and the Rebels passed for 41.
Dylan Johnson had 102 yards on 22 carries for Murrray County Central, and Schmitz carried 18 times for 102 yards.
Carter Benz completed nine of 17 passes for 100 yards for Wabasso, and Schmidt completed seven of 12 for 41.
