EDGERTON -- The Westbrook-Walnut Grove Chargers came into the 2021 high school boys basketball season expected by some to be the Class A team to beat in southwest Minnesota. A lot of eyes were on the Southwest Minnesota Christian Eagles, too -- a team that rolled through an undefeated 2019-20 schedule but lost three star players to graduation.
The two strong programs met in Edgerton on Tuesday, and the win went to Southwest Christian, 61-54.
Carter Van Hulzen scored 22 points while Zach Prins and Hunter Vander Haar each scored 10 as the Eagles prevailed.
Ethan Mischke scored 31 points for Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
W-WG (1-1) hosts Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey on Friday. Southwest Christian (2-0) travels to play Red Rock Central on Friday.
