LUVERNE -- It was a good night Thursday for the Luverne High School hockey teams against the visiting Worthington Trojans. In the first game of a doubleheader, LHS rolled to a 13-0 win over WHS, and in the second game the Card boys overcame a shots-on-goal deficit to defeat their Big South Conference opponents 4-1.
The Cardinals and the Trojans don’t have to wait long to have their rematches. On Tuesday, Worthington will host Luverne with the girls game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the boys game starting at 7:30 p.m.
Luverne 13, Worthington 0
Breaking out early and often, the Cardinals outscored the Trojans 9-0 in the first period. They added three goals in the second period and another in the third.
It was the team’s fourth shutout of the year.
Reghan Bork had four goals while Peyton Behr, Kamryn Van Batavia and Rylee Gee each had two. Single goals were scored by Brynn Thier, Anika Boll and Mallory Nelson.
LHS out-shot Worthington 35-14 in the game.
The win puts Luverne at 5-2 on the season. Worthington is 2-5.

The Trojans put most of the pressure on Luverne, putting 39 shots on goal as opposed to the Cardinals’ 24. But more of the Cards’ shots found the net.
Kade Wenninger scored twice for the winners while Will Serie and Ethan Langseth had single goals. The final LHS goal was an empty-netter.
Blake Luinenberg had Worthington’s goal. Blake Ahrenstorff and Sammy Farra were credited with assists.
Luverne is 2-5 with the win. Worthington is 1-7.
