FARGO, N.D. -- There were no answers for Edgerton/Ellsworth's passing game, or for Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley's Nate Vogt on Friday.

Unfortunately for the Flying Dutchmen, Vogt posed the tougher question.

Vogt rushed for 205 yards and three touchdowns, caught a TD pass and picked off two passes to lead the Wolverines to 60-34 win in the 9-man Section 3 title.

"He's a good one, and he does a lot for us," said CGB co-head coach Steve Jipson. "On offense and defense, we give him a lot to do, and he made a lot of plays again."

Edgerton/Ellsworth launched up 58 passes in the loss, as Alex Heard threw for 366 yards and a pair of scores.

But the downside was that CGB was able to pick off five passes.

"We knew we were going to have to throw it because they're so big and physical up front," E/E coach Andrew Fleischman said. "We were able to move the ball, but they just had too much. That's a very good team."

The Wolverines rushed for more than 200 yards in the first quarter, and got a pair of touchdowns in the first three minutes of the second quarter to open up a 28-0 lead.

The Flying Dutchmen couldn't catch up, but they did make it interesting.

E/E (9-2) managed to slice CGB's lead to 36-26 early in the fourth quarter, but the Wolverines responded by scoring 24 straight points to squash the threat.

"We were able to get it within 10, but we couldn't stop them after that," Fleischman said. "And because they're so physical, it was so hard to come back against them."

The 34 points allowed were the first points scored against CGB's first-team defense this season. The Wolverines (11-0) allowed just 40 points total in their first 10 games.

CGB opened up a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter before taking a 36-12 lead at halftime.

However, E/E came roaring back.

Chace Hulstein caught a 13-yard touchdown pass, cutting the deficit to 36-18 in the third quarter.

Jordan Gunnink caught a 10-yard touchdown pass with 11:21 remaining in the game and with the two-point conversion, trailed by 10, 36-26.

But that was as close as the Flying Dutchmen would get in the loss.

CGB will take on Section 4 champ Verndale in the 9-man quarterfinals next Friday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Big Cat Stadium in Morris.
