Arrows split with Huskies, Falcons edge Rebels and Dragons beat Wolverines (softball wrap-up)

JACKSON -- Chelsey Evans twirled a no-hitter in the nightcap of Tuesday's key Southwest Conference softball doubleheader between Pipestone Area and Jackson County Central, which ended in a split between the powerhouse teams.

JCC won the opener 4-2 before the Arrows captured a 7-0 victory behind the pitching of Evans.

JCC scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth in the opener, as Kate Rentschler (2-for-2 with a walk) and Sarah Luhmann delivered RBIs to propel the Huskies to the win.

Rentschler earned the complete-game victory and fanned four batters for JCC.

Bailey Bouman pitched a complete game for the Arrows, striking out six batters. She was also 2-for-4 at the plate, and Nicole Buysse ripped a triple and stole home in the fourth inning to put PA up 2-1.

Evans was unhittable in the second game, as she fanned 11 batters and walked just one in picking up the no-hitter.

Kayla Rowden and Brooke Henderson were each 2-for-3 for the Arrows.

Rentschler and Kelsey Hakes shared the pitching duties for JCC.

JCC visits Worthington Thursday.

Redwood Valley 2, Luverne 0, 9 innings

LUVERNE -- The Luverne Cardinals and Redwood Valley Cardinals needed nine innings to decide the winner in the first game of a Southwest Conference softball doubleheader Tuesday.

RV, however, came up with the clutch hit in the top of the ninth to capture the victory.

Kelsey Theesfeld took the loss for Luverne (0-2, 0-3), allowing no earned runs on four hits, while walking one and striking out six.

Chelcie Lueck earned the victory for RV.

Liz Solma had a pair of hits, including a triple for Luverne, while Courtney Fodness had the other hit for the Cardinals.

Laura Houghton was 2-for-4 for RV.

LUVERNE -- While the two teams needed only seven innings to decide the winner in Game 2, the outcome was the same for both Cardinals.

Christy Van Dyke led the Luverne attack with a pair of hits, while Mikki Fitzer and Paige Olson also had two hits in the second game. Kat Dahl had one hit, but made it count, as she hit a home run for the Cardinals.

Randi Tubbs had a pair of hits to lead RV.

Theesfeld suffered the loss in the circle for Luverne. She allowed seven hits while walking two batters.

Leuick came on in relief and earned the victory for RV.

Luverne will continue its conference schedule Thursday at Marshall.

SANBORN -- Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove struck early with a five-run second inning and later added a trio of runs in the fifth to earn a key Red Rock Conference victory over Murray County Central.

Kelly Shaner was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for the Falcons (2-0, 3-0), while Abby Halter, Jenny Hoffman, Emily Neperman and Jenna Smith each had two hits. Halter had a two-run inside-the-park home run.

Audra Schmidt struck out six and walked none in hurling a complete game for the Falcons.

Kate Robinson led MCC with a 2-for-4 day at the plate. One of her hits was a two-run inside-the-park home run.

Becky Blomendaal tossed a complete game for the Rebels, striking out eight batters.

RRC/W-WG hosts ML/B-O Thursday, while MCC hosts Southwestern United.

Edgerton 27, SWU 3 (5 innings)

BREWSTER -- Eleven players had a hit, including six with two or more, for the Edgerton Flying Dutchmen in their 24-run Red Rock Conference victory over Southwestern United.

Katie Hadler (two singles, double, triple and five RBIs) and Kelsey Wolthuizen (four RBIs) were each 4-for-5 for Edgerton (1-0, 1-1), which smacked a total of 23 hits in the game and scored 10 runs in both the second and fourth innings.

Sammi Vanden Bosch (five runs, two RBIs) and Dulcy Boyum (single, double, triple, four RBIs) each had three hits for the Flying Dutchmen, and Macy Butson and Alyson Drooger were both 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.

Hadler earned the complete-game victory and struck out seven batters.

SWU's Christine Kazemba also threw a complete game and was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored.

Anna Obermoller had a pair of hits and scored a run for the Wildcats (0-2, 0-3), while April Wallace and Roshay Reimers each cracked a single. Wallace had two RBIs.

Edgerton visits Adrian Thursday, while SWU travels to Slayton to face MCC.

ELLSWORTH -- Briana Neibuhr's game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the seventh propelled Adrian Area to a Red Rock Conference softball victory Tuesday over Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin.

Niebuhr drove in Sam Lynn, who was 3-for-4 on the game, in the seventh to give AA a victory in its first game of the season.

Melissa Weidert had a pair of hits, while Mary Loosbrock had a single for the Dragons.

Karli Meyer earned the victory, allowing three earned runs on four hits, while walking two and striking out 10.

Courtney Anderson took the loss for ML/B-O (0-2), allowing four earned runs on six hits while walking one and striking out 14.

Anderson led the Wolverines with an inside the park solo home run.

Kelly Hempeck had a double, while Megan Svalland had a single.

AA will host Edgerton Thursday, while ML/B-O will travel to RRC/W-WG.
