Legion baseball: Worthington out-hits Heron Lake

HERON LAKE -- The Worthington American Legion baseball team scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning, breaking free from a 4-4 tie, to beat host Heron Lake 7-4 Tuesday night on a combined one-hitter.

Turner Rogers, Logan Huisman, Tyler Linder and Ben Rogers all had two hits for Worthington. Head coach Tim Gaul singled out Ben Rogers for being “a sparkplug” at second base, and then as catcher.

Eric Heidebrink pitched the first three innings for Worthington and Linder pitched the next two. Walks hurt Worthington in the middle innings, but the team righted itself. Tucker Sorenson pitched the last two innings, allowing no runs with three walks and five strikeouts. He picked up the win.

Logan Knutson pitched well for Heron Lake in going the distance.

Ethan Becker collected Heron Lake’s only hit.
