Amateur baseball: Hadley takes series opener from Jackson, 6-0
JACKSON -- An outstanding pitching performance from Pipestone draftee Brandan Alfson, and a strong hitting attack, helped the Hadley Buttermakers beat Jackson 6-0 Wednesday night in the first game of a best-of-three Region 13C amateur baseball playoff series at Wacker Field.
Both teams have already qualified for the 2018 state tournament. The winner of the series gains top seed from the region.
Alfson threw hard and threw well against the Bulls on Wednesday, checking the home team on just three hits while walking three and striking out eight. Thus, the Bulls were cooled off after sweeping Windom in two straight games to clinch a state tourney berth.
Hadley collected 13 hits in Wednesday's game.
Game 2 of the series is Saturday at Hadley, beginning at 2 p.m.
In another area series opener Wednesday, Windom defeated Fairmont 1-0 behind the pitching of Ross Ackerman. The series resumes Saturday at 2 p.m., in Windom. Winner of the series becomes the third team from the region to make state.
