ESTHERVILLE, Iowa -- There were bright spots offensively, but few bright spots defensively for the Minnesota West Lady Jays basketball team Tuesday in a contest against Iowa Lakes Community College.
Iowa Lakes won the game 91-73 as the Worthington-based college struggled to guard their rivals. The Lakers were bigger and stronger, said Minnesota West head coach Rosalie Hayenga-Hostikka, and matching up with them was difficult.
"We just struggled to guard them defensively. They just broke us down one on one and we didn't do a very good job sometimes," Hayenga-Hostikka said. "We tried man, zone, a different kind of zone, we tried different man."
The Lady Jays offense performed well at times, though. They ran the floor well, made the extra pass, and found the open person.
There were no statistics available from the game.
Iowa Lakes led by nine points at the end of the first quarter and led by 17 at halftime.
Minnesota West, 0-4 on the young season, is at home Saturday for a 6 p.m. game against Bethany Lutheran JV.
