BUFFALO -- Worthington Trojans Madison Beckmann, Ellie Weg and Tarren Spartz survived to the second day of the Section 3AA golf tournament Wednesday by virtue of their scores in the first day of competition.
Beckmann, a freshman, placed fifth overall Wednesday at Oakdale Golf Course in Buffalo, carding an 88. Weg shot a 97 and Spartz shot a 102. The second and final day of the competition is June 2 at Oakdale, where state tournament berths are on the line.
Trojans Kendall Nixon had a 107 Lilly Mahlberg a 108 and Mia Nixon a 115 on Wednesday.
Worthington narrowly missed qualifying for Day Two as a team, placing sixth. The top five teams qualify for the next round, and Worthington was only two strokes off the fifth-place team. Minnewaska had the top score Wednesday with 345 strokes. Redwood Valley had 379, New London-Spicer 382, Luverne 391 and Litchfield 392 to round out the top five. Worthington came in at 394, followed by Jackson County Central 399, Montevideo 404, Marshall 407, New Ulm 416 and Windom Area 436.
The first day of the Section 3AA boys competition is Tuesday, June 1.
