MONTEVIDEO -- The Luverne Cardinals boys tennis team swept a pair of matches Saturday in Montevideo, beating Yellow Medicine East 7-0 and Montevideo 7-0.
At first singles, Mark Robinson won matches in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-2, over YME’s Matthew Vernig and Montevideo’s Henry Strunc, respectively.
All of the Cardinals, in fact, won in straight sets. The closest match was at No. 3 singles against YME, as the Cardinals’ Jim Erickson defeated Ean Clarke 6-2, 7-6 (7-2). Erickson won his second match 6-0, 6-3. Cade VerSteeg won twice at No. 2 singles and Trey Baustian won twice at No. 4 singles.
Luke Jarchow and Matt Jelken at No. 1 doubles, Cole Stoltenberg and Ethan Thorson at No. 2 doubles, and Matt Sehr and Tyler Fick at No. 3 doubles rolled to a pair of victories.
