SIOUX CENTER, Iowa - Eight Minnesota West pitchers combined on a two-hitter against Dordt JV Tuesday in a convincing 9-0 baseball victory.
Joe Wieneke hurled the first two innings and was credited with the victory.
As a group, West pitchers issued no walks and struck out 11 batters. Derick Veldkamp pitched the seventh inning and struck out two batters. Austin Watkins pitched the eighth and struck out the side. And Isaac Canada pitched the ninth and struck out two.
Only one Dordt runner reached as far as third base in the entire nine-inning game.
“We played very well all the way around,” said head coach TD Hostikka.
Meanwhile, Minnesota West (21-16) collected 17 hits. Isaiah Spencer was 4-for-4 with two runs scored. Gustavo Landin was 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Alex Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases. And Moises Vallejos was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
