MOUNTAIN LAKE - Jackson County Central freshman Jessica Christoffer raced to a strong second-place individual finish at the 10-team Wolverine Invitational high school cross country meet at the Mountain Lake Golf Course Wednesday.
Christoffer clocked a time of 15:31 on the challenging 4,000-meter course, finishing just 15 seconds behind United South Central/Alden-Conger freshman Beth Stevermer, the state’s 10th-ranked Class A girl, who covered the distance in 15:16.
Fairmont freshman Iliana Ramon was third (15:35) followed by a pair of teammates and two runners from Martin County West.
Windom sophomore Christianna Green finished eighth (16:34), while Adrian senior Morgan Sauer (16:39), Mountain Lake Area senior Lydia Hildebrandt (16:40) and JCC junior Jadin Bezdicek (16:48) also earned individual medals (top 15) by placing 10-12, respectively.
Murray County Central junior Clayton Hartle was the area’s top finisher in the boys’ race, placing seventh with a 5,000-meter time of 18:02.
Adrian senior Taylor Recker (eighth, 18:05), Southwest Christian/Edgerton junior Dillon Mulske (11th, 18:15), MCC sophomore Isaiah Olsem (13th 18:27) and Windom senior Aaron Axford (14th, 18:28) also claimed individual medals.
MCW showed why the Mavericks are Minnesota’s top-ranked boys’ team, putting six runners among the top-12 finishers and winning the team title with an impressive score of 30 (2-3-6-9-10).
Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial/Nicollet, paced by individual winner John Roth (17:06) finished a solid second with 78 points, followed by MCC (114), Fairmont (118), Windom (130), Adrian (139), MLA (166) and USC/AC (182). JCC and SWC/E were both incomplete.
Fairmont (3-5-6-13-15) tallied 42 points to claim the girls’ team title, followed by MCW (55), JCC (106), LC-WM/N (120), Adrian (159), MLA (187) and MCC (234). Windom, SWC/E and USC/AC were each incomplete.
