Cubs fall short in 5-1 amateur baseball loss to Ruthton

RUTHTON — The Worthington Cubs' attempt at a comeback against host Ruthton came up short here Wednesday as the Royals escaped with a 5-1 victory.

Worthington scored a run in the top of the ninth inning and had the bases loaded with nobody out. But no more runs were plated.

Mitchell Biever got the mound win for Ruthton. Kent Lais pitched five innings, walking one and striking out seven, for Worthington. Brock Bruns and Triston Sauerbrei also pitched.

Tate Gaul scored the Cubs' only run. Nathan Van Orman went 2-for-3 and walked.
Worthington will host Pipestone in Worthington on Sunday at 2 p.m.
