FAIRMONT -- The host Fairmont High School girls soccer team beat Worthington 8-1 on Tuesday, scoring six goals in the second half to turn a close game into a rout.

Despite the loss, Trojans goalkeeper Chantel Peralta was credited with a fine performance. A total of 29 shots were taken by the Cardinals, and all the scores were high balls just over the crossbar -- all of them contested.

Worthington's only goal was tallied with about 13 minutes remaining in the second half. It found the net as the Trojans' Leidi Chavez pressured the Fairmont goalkeeper. It bounded into the net off the goalie.

The Trojans attempted two shots in the first half, both by Sofia Montoya. Four WHS shots were attempted in the second half.
