MARSHALL -- State-ranked Marshall placed a speed bump in front of the Worthington girls basketball Trojans on Friday, doubling their score.
Jordyn Hilgemann finished with 25 points and six rebounds to pace the Tigers’ effort. She had 21 points in the first half as MHS rolled to a 51-26 lead at the intermission. Teammate Emily Meyer contributed 14 points and pulled down 10 boards.
Worthington entered the game with a 4-1 record and was coming off an impressive 97-55 win over previously-unbeaten Jackson County Central on Tuesday. But the Tigers, ranked No. 8 in Minnesota Class AAA, improved to 7-0 with Friday’s triumph.
Madisyn Huisman scored 14 points and had nine rebounds for the Trojans. Olivia Hayenga had five points and five rebounds, and Maya Scheitel-Taylor added six points. Sophie Wietzema had 10 rebounds to go along with her two points.

The Trojans, who committed 35 turnovers compared to Marshall’s 11, were never able to get traction. Marshall scored 16 of the game’s first 19 second half points, and coasted.
“This is a team that’s very well-coached,” WHS head coach Eric Lindner said of the Tigers. “They do things the right way. They came out physical … and we didn’t match it.”

EDGERTON -- Junior forward Maren Nerem had an outstanding night, scoring 26 points and pulling down 24 rebounds in Southwest Christian’s Red Rock Conference victory over Murray County Central.
Cybil Vander Top scored 25 points and finessed her way to three steals for the Eagles. Jazlynn Prins scored 14 and had eight boards. Rylie Fey scored 10 and had three rebounds.
Senior guard Shelby Christensen led the Rebels with 16 points. Sam Larson scored 15, and Brianna Schmitz scored 10.

ADRIAN -- Chrissy Hermeling scored 12 points for Heron Lake Okabena-Fulda in its loss to Red Rock Conference opponent Adrian.
Ashlyn Meester scored 16 points for the Dragons, and Kallie Chapa added 16 points. Bailey Lonneman scored 14. Senior guard Moriah Bullerman dished out five assists and had four points.

HILLS -- Sophomore guard Kenadie Fick had 19 points and six steals to lead unbeaten Hills-Beaver Creek to a Red Rock Conference victory over Edgerton.

Senior center Whitney Elbers had 14 points and seven rebounds and junior forward Abby Knobloch had 19 points as the balanced Patriots improved to 7-0. Junior guard Taryn Rauk had 16 points and sophomore Sam Moser contributed six rebounds.
For Edgerton, sophomore Reece Wassink scored seven points and senior Gabby Buckridge added six.

JACKSON -- Senior forward Autumn Hauge poured in 30 points as Windom Area drilled Jackson County Central in a Big South clash.
Delaney Smith scored 20 points and teammates Allison Letcher and Gracie Bucher had 15 and 11, respectively, for the Eagles.
For JCC, senior guard Alaina Wolff scored 13 points and sophomore Sadie Voss added 12. Junior guard Regan Farmer scored 11 for the Huskies.

W-WG Tournament
WESTBROOK -- Lakeview defeated Westbrook-Walnut Grove 56-43 and Minneota topped Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 70-50 in the Westbrook-Walnut Grove holiday tournament.
Lakeview’s Billy Errington scored 14 points to lead Lakeview past W-WG. Ethan Mischke scored 13 points with eight rebounds and five assists for the Chargers, who also got 11 points from Cole VanDeViele.
It was a slow-paced game. W-WG attempted only 38 field goals, and Lakeview attempted just 47.

LUVERNE -- Connor Josephson scored 19 points and Bryant Haas added 17 as Redwood Valley defeated Luverne in a Big South Conference game.
Freshman Gannon Ahrendt scored 15 points and junior guard Bailey Cowell added 14 for Luverne, which trailed just 36-30 at halftime but was outscored by 21 points in the second half. Nick Feit scored 12 and Kaden DeSollar had 10 for the Cardinals.

JACKSON -- Host Jackson County Central upended rival Windom Area by 12.
The victory ended a two-game losing streak for the Huskies, who are now 3-2 on the young season.

MILFORD, Iowa -- George-Little Rock upped its win streak to four after a tight victory over Siouxland Conference opponent Okoboji.
Senior Matt Haken had a double-double, scoring 31 points and pulling down 14 rebounds for the Mustangs. Payton Mauldin scored 20, dished out five assists, and had five rebounds.
Lucas Lorenzen scored 23 points for the Pioneers. Jamison Helmers scored 22 points.
The two Souixland teams duked it out in the fourth quarter. The Mustangs put the game out of reach with a dunk with six seconds to go. The Pioneers connected on a big 3-pointer to put the game at one. With no timeouts, the Pioneers could do nothing but watch as the Mustangs ran out the clock.

Worthington 7, Mayo 2
ROCHESTER -- The Worthington Trojans girls hockey team scored a season-high seven goals in a huge win over Rochester Mayo.
Kessey Aljets scored two goals in the second period, one unassisted and the other with assists coming from Kory Nickel and Makenna Nickel. Riley Nickel scored the first goal for the Trojans, with an assist from junior forward Ashton Fogelman. Riley Nickel scored a second goal in the third period.
Madisyn Shreiner scored an unassisted goal in the first period for Worthington. Fogelman scored twice, once in the second, and another in the third with an assist from Riley Nickel.
“We moved the puck up, and we moved the puck well,” Worthington coach Chad Nickel said. “They put shots were they needed to be, and the shots were better than normal.”
Worthington had 40 shots in the game. Rochester Mayo attempted 23.

MANKATO WEST -- Though they were out-shot 38-16, the Windom Area Eagles managed to trim host Mankato West by a goal.
Toria Robillard and Meakin Bangt scored the goals for Windom Area. Caitlin Hvinden scored Mankato West’s goal.
In another area girls game, Luverne defeated Waseca 6-3. No individual statistics were available.

BENSON -- The Morris/Benson Area Storm edged Luverne by scoring three goals in the first period, allowing three to Luverne in the second, then scoring a single goal in the third.
Nathan Nekali, Colby Crabtree and Easton Braun scored for the Cardinals, who were out-shot 31-29 in the contest.
