Friday sports roundup: WHS tennis wins match against Pipestone Area

E/SWC baseball and MCC softball post nonconference victories. Sawyer Drent was under par for HL-O/F/W-WG in a match against RRC.

Tennis

Worthington 6, Pipestone Area 1

WORTHINGTON — Worthington boys tennis won three matches of four played matches on Friday against Big South Conference opponent Pipestone Area.

Ian Barber won the first singles match 6-0, 6-1 against Makhi Winter from the Arrows.

WHS senior Ezra Bonnett won his second singles match 6-1, 6-2 against Lucas Zupp. Evan Hansberger won the third singles match against Cody Norberg 6-1, 6-4.

Bennett Oberloh lost fourth singles to Chase Wilson from Pipestone Area 6-4, 6-1.

Victory Bu and Dylan Dykstra won the first doubles match by forfeit. Lance Gordon and Kaw Tha Blaw won second doubles by forfeit. Oziel Briones and Caleb Barber won third doubles by forfeit.

Baseball

E/SWC 4, TMB 1

EDGERTON — Edgerton/Southwest Minnesota Christian took advantage of six timely singles and five costly Tracy-Milroy-Balaton errors down the stretch for a 4-1 victory. The Flying Dutchmen are now 5-2 on the season.

Skyler Feikema pitched a complete game for E/SWC. He allowed two walks and two hits. He struck out six.

E/SWC’s fielding was vastly improved from Thursday night’s 7-3 loss to Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove. The Flying Dutchmen had just one error in the field.

Trevin Prins scored a run for the Eagles. As did Logan Bleyenberg, Tylson Bleyenberg and Josh Van Dam.

Alex Munson pitched four and two-thirds innings for the Panthers. Noah Knakmuh pitched the final seven outs. He walked four and struck out six.

The Flying Dutchmen play Lakeview on Saturday.

Softball 

MCC 10, Lakeview 5

COTTONWOOD — Thea Schneider struck out 13 for Murray County Central in a 10-5 victory over Lakeview on Friday.

Schneider walked one and had five hits against her. All five of the runs were unearned.

MCC scored two runs in the first, three runs in the second, two runs in the third and three runs in the sixth.

Alyssa Boerboom scored three runs as a courtesy runner. Taylor Larson and Karissa Hurd had two hits each. Larson had two RBIs and both of her hits went for doubles. Mary McNab had two RBIs.

Golf

HL-O/F/W-WG 158, RRC 203 

WESTBROOK — Sawyer Drent was sub par with 33 strokes for Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a dual matchup against Red Rock Central.

Teammate Nathan Kueny shot 38 and finished second. Brady Ross scored 39 and finished third. Neil Kuehl and Mason Ommen tied for fourth with 48 strokes each.

RRC juniors Gavin Willardson and Corey Arkell were the Falcons’ top scorers with 50.

Aryana Weber from RRC was top in the girls competition with 53. Bailey Timm and Coyotes’ Kelli Renneke tied for second with 54.
