Girls basketball roundup: Sammons sizzles for Windom Area

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda had a hot start in its girls basketball game against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in last weekend's Wabasso Tipoff, but lost 68-47.

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda had a hot start in its girls basketball game against Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in last weekend's Wabasso Tipoff, but lost 68-47. In the same tournament, Westbrook-Walnut Grove fell to Wabasso 47-43 and to Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop 43-38.

At Minnesota West Community and Technical College on Saturday, the Windom Area Eagles defeated Hills-Beaver Creek 60-49.

C-G-B 68, HL-O/F 47

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda led Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley 16-5 early, but CGB then scored 10 unanswered points to draw close before pulling away. It was 35-25 in CGB's favor at halftime.

Faith White had 15 points for the Coyotes. Chrissy Hermeling scored nine points with seven rebounds. Emily Madison had nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Taryn Evers added nine points with three blocks. And Anna Fest had six assists.

Grace Cardwell and Jessica Moberg led CGB in scoring with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

HL-O/F shot just 24.6 percent from the field.

W-WG loses to Wabasso, G-F-W

Isabel Klumper scored 27 points for Westbrook-Walnut Grove in the Wabasso game. She had 19 points in the game with Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.

Windom Area 60, Hills-Beaver Creek 49

Freshman Hadley Sammons was outstanding for the Windom Area Eagles, scoring 32 points. She had 26 points at halftime, which was three more than the Patriots scored as a team.

Kenadie Fick finished with 13 points for H-BC and teammate Lanae Elbers, who was 7-for-13 from the field, had 17.

The Eagles led 34-23 at halftime.
