Luverne 3, Worthington 1 LUVERNE -- Ashton Fogelman scored a late goal for fifth-seeded Worthington, but the comeback attempt came up just short in a loss to fourth-seeded Luverne.
“That was probably one of the best games I’ve seen our girls play tonight,” WHS head coach Chad Nickel said. “They had moments where they were creating pressure. We put shots on goal and had some missed opportunities. But overall, I’m proud of the girls. They left it all on the rink tonight.”
The Cardinals avance to face top-seeded Marshall Saturday in Marshall.
Lexi Henrichs scored the game’s first goal with Kamryn VanBatavia and Rozilyn Oye assisting. Claire Baustian gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead with a goal in the final minute of the first period. VanBatavia had the assist.
Billi Connell scored a second-period goal with Maddie Dinger assisting.

However, the lone goal in the final period went to the Trojans. Fogelman scored with Kya Nickel and Delayne Kuhl assisting.
“It’s unfortunate the season is done, but to know how the girls have improved since the first time we played Luverne to the second game and now we held them to three goals and we got one in on them, it’s huge improvements,” Nickel said.
Bailey Kruse made 33 saves in net.
For Kruse, Maddie Schmidt and Alyssa Bouseman, the loss means the end of a career for the three seniors.
“They are going to be missed, but the rest of them are going to have to step up to fill in the gaps,” Nickel said.
