WASECA - Minnehaha United goalie Laren Schommer was able to shut down the Windom Area offense Tuesday as the Eagles dropped a 2-0 contest at the Waseca Holiday Tournament.
Ellen Seibel scored 7:53 into the first period off of assists from Lily Mullinix and Saakje Hoekstra. She scored again on a penalty shot goal with 8:32 gone by in the second to bring the game to its final.
That was all the offense United could muster against Eagles goalie Emily Steen. She stopped 28 of the 30 shots fired her way, but it wasn’t enough as Schommer went 11-for-11.
The loss dropped Windom Area to 0-2 in the tournament after it lost 4-2 to North Shore on Tuesday. The Eagles wrap up play at 3 p.m. this afternoon against the hosting Bluejays.

Luverne 6, Sun Prairie 2
BLAINE - Luverne scored four goals in the second period to take down Sun Prairie Co-op 6-2 Wednesday on Day 2 of the Schwan Cup in Blaine.
The victory was a rebound for the Cardinals, who lost 5-1 to Fort Frances (Ontario) on Tuesday.
Madisyn Dingmann scored her first of two goals just 2:43 into the game to put Luverne up 1-0. Makayla Sterrett - who tallied five points with two goals and three assists - and Lexi Henrichs provided assists on the score. Sterrett got a helper from Carly Serie to make it 2-0 midway through the opening period.
The Cougars got one back late, but the Cards still led 2-1 going into the second. Short-handed goals for Sterrett and Dingmann during the first 4:01 of the frame gave them some breathing room. Henrichs and Mariah Aukes (assisted by Madison Crabtree and Maddie Dinger) scored late in the period to set the score at 6-2.
Luverne out-shot Sun Prairie 23-20.
