FAIRMONT -- Their prospects weren’t good from the start, but the Worthington Trojans girls soccer team managed to escape Fairmont Thursday feeling that things could have been worse.
Absent their starting goaltender, junior Allison Xayasane, the Trojans used Ahmitara Alwal in net for the first half and Clara Fuentes in net for the second half. All in all, said head coach Emily Ahlquist, the plan went OK.
“I told the team to keep it under 10,” she said.
Mission accomplished. Fairmont scored four goals in the first half and five in the second to thwart Worthington 9-0.

The Trojans remained winless on the 2016 and they weren’t able to score their second goal of the current campaign, however.
“We were really struggling with our passes. We weren’t connecting our passes to push it up the field,” Ahlquist said.
The Trojans will get right back onto the field again tonight with a 6:30 p.m. start against New Ulm in Worthington. Then on Saturday the Trojans host Willmar at 3 p.m.
