WORTHINGTON -- Wednesday was another cold, damp day in southwest Minnesota, but the high school golfers of Section 3A were able to get halfway through their tournament at GreatLIFE of Worthington.

The top four teams and the top one-fourth of the rest qualified for the second and final day, which will happen again at GreatLIFE, next Wednesday.

The Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda boys team carded a collective 364 on day one. Wabasso struck a 386, Southwest Christian/Edgerton a 392, and Murray County Central a 399. Those four teams, and all their members, advance.

MCC’s Jack Pierson was boys medalist on Wednesday, with an 83. Justin Barnardy of Wabasso had an 86. Payton Marquardt and Joe Fischer of HL-O/F placed third and fourth overall with 87 and 89.

The first individual qualifier was Andrew Quade of Westbrook-Walnut Grove, with 89. Others who qualified outside of their team’s scores were Brock Henning of Adrian (94), Jack Kent of Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (95), Nathan Kuehl of W-WG (96), Justin Klabunde of Red Rock Central (97), Sam Dammann of RRC (98), Easton Braun of Adrian (99), and Thomas Dysthe of Hills-Beaver Creek (99).

Murray County Central finished with a 407 to stand atop the team girls standings. Adrian had 432 strokes, W-WG 437 and HL-O/F 444, rounding out the four squads sending all their golfers to the final round.

MCC’s Abby Hamman was first overall Wednesday with an 81. Tess Van Maanen of H-BC was next with 96, followed by Brittany Erickson of W-WG (97). Madelyn Odell and Gracia Elias, both of Adrian, finished fourth and fifth with 101 and 103 strokes, respectively.

Others advancing individually included Carley Baumann of RRC (108), Hannah Fick of H-BC (112) and Rylie Hess of R-T-R (114).
