State golf: Hamman places fourth overall in girls Class A

Abby Hamman followed up a round of 83 on Tuesday with another 83 on Wednesday and finished with a 166 total at the Minnesota Class A high school golf tournament. The score placed the Murray County Central junior just six shots behind the medalist, Rachel Halvorson of Lac qui Parle Valley, and in fourth place overall.

Hamman thus improved on her seventh-place performance last year, and 15th-place showing two years ago.

The Class A tournament was at Pebble Creek in Becker. The Class AA meet was at Sand Creek in Jordan. And Class AAA was played at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids.

Girls

Though Hamman was sharp, her solid score was not able to pull the Rebels higher than fifth place as a team.

BOLD won the Class A girls team tourney with a 704 total. Park Christian was close behind with 705, followed by Lac qui Parle Valley with 720 and Badger-Greenbush-Middle River with 758. MCC and North Woods tied for fifth place with 800 scores. Fillmore Central had 812 and Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton finished with 907.

MCC shot a 403 total on Wednesday to go with a 397 score on Tuesday.

Amber Boock carded a two-day total of 209 strokes for the Rebels. Teammates Vanessa Dahlgren had 211, Ciera Tutt 2017, Paige Behrends 219 and Kylie Frisk 227.

Madelyn Odell of Adrian finished with a 196. Hills-Beaver Creek’s Tess Van Maanen compiled rounds of 101 strokes for a 202 total. Gracia Elias of Adrian followed a 104 with a 98 for 202. Brittany Erickson of Westbrook-Walnut Grove came in at 216. And Josi Altman of Adrian had a 220.

Boys

Brett Reid, a sophomore from Community Christian, captured medalist honors in Class A with a one-over par 145, coming in with 72 strokes on the first day and 73 on the second.

Jack Pierson of Murray County Central, added an 80 to his first-day 80 to finish at 160 strokes. Teammate Cole Ahlers finished with a 190. Westbrook-Walnut Grove’s Andrew Quade had a 163. Brock Henning of Adrian finished at 182, and Trey Huisken of Southwest Christian/Edgerton came in at 195.

Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda finished eighth in the team standings. Community Christian won with a 655 total, followed by Springfield with 658, Fertile-Beltrami and Lac qui Parle Valley both with 676, Walker-Hackensack-Akely-Laporte 692, North Woods 699, Bethlehem Academy 738 and HL-O/F 754.

Cory Renneke led the HL-O/F boys with a 182, shooting 94 on Tuesday and 88 on Wednesday. Other HL-O/F scores included Payton Marquardt 185, Joe Fischer 192, and Ethan Koep, Isaiah Schmid and Tyler Madison all with 208.

Cecil Belisle, a senior from Red Wing, carded a 69 on Wednesday to zoom up the leaderboard, earning Class AA medalist honors with a one-under 143 for the tournament.

Holy Family Catholic won the team tourney with 620 strokes, followed by Detroit Lakes with 640, Cloquet 641, Red Wing 653, Blue Earth Area 654, Hill-Murray 658, St. Cloud Cathedral 676 and Jackson County Central 684.

Scott Flatebo shot rounds of 81 and 78 strokes for a 159 to lead the JCC golfers. Teammates Jack Brinkman had 161, Alec Kocak 180, Tanner Haar 185, Austin Haar 189 and Carter Olson 196.
