SHERBURN -- Zach Boever scored 20 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, made eight steals and had three blocks as the Worthington Trojans bested Martin County West in a boys high school basketball game Monday night.
Victory didn’t come easily for WHS, though. Martin County West led by 10 points midway through the second half and it wasn’t until three or four minutes remained in the game that the Trojans were able to get their first lead.
Tyler Linder scored 12 points, Logan Huisman added eight, and Stewart Merrigan had nine rebounds for the winners.
Worthington struggled offensively in the first half against a disciplined, hard-working MCW team that liked to go inside. Against the Mavericks’ 1-2-2 zone, the Trojans made only eight of 35 shots in the first half.
In the second half, however, improved rebounding and solid free throw shooting brought WHS back. Worthington converted 16 of 20 free throws in the game, including nine of 12 in the second half.
