FRIDAY, APRIL 7 TRACK AND FIELD Mountain Lake InviteMOUNTAIN LAKE -- Winning all four relays and getting an individual victory from John Irwin, the Windom Area Eagle boys scored 116 points to finish first in a nine-team high school track and field meet at Munson Field Friday.Irwin won the 1,600-meter run (4:50.61) and anchored Windom’s winning 4x800 (8:56.34) and 4x400 (3:47.66) relay teams. The Eagles also won the 4x100 (48.48) and 4x200 (1:42.28) on a warm, but very windy, afternoon.Wabasso, paced by the triple first-place finishes of Colton Taylor (100, 11.59; long jump, 20-0 and 400, 54.03) finished a close second in the boys team standings with 107 points, followed by Jackson County Central (101), Mountain Lake Area (95), Westbrook-Walnut Grove/Red Rock Central (83), Minnesota Valley Lutheran (55), Cedar Mountain/Comfrey/Springfield (52), Madelia/Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain (52) and Heron Lake-Okabena (16).MVL won the girls title with 126 points, while JCC edged M/T/G-H-EC, 98-91 for second. Wabasso was fourth with 79 points, followed by Windom Area (72), HL-O (57), CM/C/S (57), W-WG/RRC (50) and MLA (45).Windom eighth-grader Delaney Smith was a double-event girls first-place finisher, winning both the shot put (35-4) and discus (103-4) in convincing fashion.HL-O’s Cheyenne Schaffer won the high jump (4-10), W-WG/RRC’s Ramsey Piotter was first in the triple jump (33-8.5) and both JCC’s Kailey Koep and W-WG/RRC’s Hunter Bloch cleared 7-6 to top the field in the pole vault.On the track, JCC’s Jessica Christopher impressively won the 800 (2:34.90) and anchored the Huskies’ winning 4x100 relay (54.57). Piotter was second in the 400 (1:07.65), JCC’s Alyssa Post finished second in the 200 (28.30), Windom’s Gracie Bucher was second in the 1,600 (6:03.00). MLA’s Emily Jahnke placed second in the 100-meter high hurdles (18.25) and JCC’s Molly Boyum (53.53) was second in the 300-meter low hurdles.W-WG/RRC’s Koua Vang cleared 12-0 to easily win the boys pole vault. MLA’s Kris Menken won the high jump (5-6), JCC’s Teague Schultz was first in the 110-meter high hurdles (18.26), MLA’s Reynaldo Capetillo won the 200 (23.92) and W-WG/RRC’s Nathan Runck after finishing second in the 1,600 (4:57.04), cruised to an easy victory in the 3,200 with a fine early-season time of 10:54.93. BASEBALL RRC/W-WG 7, Luverne 3 LAMBERTON -- Corey Maras was 2-for-2 at the plate with a bases-loaded double in the first inning as Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove dispatched Luverne.

RRC/W-WG (2-0) scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Trevor Pederson drove in two runs for the winners. Taylor Bunting was the winning pitcher, hurling five innings while walking four and striking out five.

Declan Beers took the loss for Luverne.

Mark Sterrett went 2-for-4 for the Cardinals and hit a triple to lead off the game.

SOFTBALL Sleepy Eye 15, MLA 13 SLEEPY EYE -- In a wild one in Sleepy Eye, the Indians scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to overcome a 13-9 deficit and defeat Mountain Lake Area.

Alexa Steffl had three hits to lead Sleepy Eye’s 17-hit attack.

Meredith Suess and Hailey Pidde both homered for the Wolverines. Suess had three hits while teammates Pidde and Molly Carnell each drove in two runs.

The loss drops MLA to 0-3.

Courtney Dittbenner was the winning pitcher.

GOLF Adrian Triangular ADRIAN -- Windom Area won twice in the Adrian Triangular golf tournament.

The Eagle boys scored 196 points while Adrian had 217 and Red Rock Central 218. On the girls’ side, Windom Area had 219 and Adrian 231. RRC was incomplete.

Tylan Porath and Jacob Cory both carded 47 to earn co-medalist honors for the Windom Area boys. Parker Alvstad and Jackson Roll each had 51.

Cade Bittner led RRC with a 52. Mitchell Veld and Landon Runia both had 53 for Adrian.

Windom Area’s Paige Pigman was the girls medalist with a 45. Hallie Will with a 48 and Sophia Nelson with a 55 contributed to the Eagles’ solid team score.

Alexia Kemper scored a 47 for Adrian and Annika Elias had a 53. For RRC, Maria Johnson had a 52.
