WACONIA -- Host Waconia defeated the Worthington High School girls hockey team Tuesday night, 11-4, outscoring the Trojans 8-0 in the first period.
"We struggled with a slow start to the first. Then we skated even up in the second. And I think we may have outskated them in the third," said Worthington head coach Chad Nickel.
The shot totals seemed to bear that out. For the game, the Trojans out-shot Waconia 27-25, outshooting the home team 11-8 in the second period and 11-1 in the third.
Kessey Aljets scored two of Worthington's goals. Marin Pederson and Riley Nickel each had one goal. Nickel, Aljets and Allison Iverson were credited with assists.
In another girls hockey game Tuesday, Luverne defeated Fairmont 10-0.
