Iowa prep cross country: Sieperda, Anderson lead GLR/CL in Sibley

SIBLEY, Iowa -- Gable Sieperda placed second and teammate Joe Anderson placed third, helping George-Little Rock/Central Lyon to a third-place finish in the boys standings of the Sibley-Ocheyedan Invitational Tuesday.

Western Christian won the team competition with 61 points, led by first-place runner Tristan Hulstein, who completed the 5,000-meter course in a sterling time of 16:00.76. Trinity Christian had 83 points for second place, followed by G-LR/CL’s 99. Ten teams competed.
On the girls’ side, Sammy Blum of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley toured the grounds in a winning time of 20:15.97 to lead her team to victory. B-H/RV had 27 points, followed by Sheldon with 42, Western Christian 55, Alta-Aurelia 93 and Hinton 125.
In the boys’ standings, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley placed fourth with 113 points. Next was South O’Brien with 116, Sioux Center 122, Sheldon 131, Alta-Aurelia 196, Remsen St. Mary’s 198 and Hinton 229.
Sieperda posted a 16:03.58 time and Anderson finished in 17:04.13. Sibley-Ocheyedan got a fourth-place finish in the boys race, as Grant Brouwer came in at 17:19.38. Other area finishes of note were: Sheldon’s Dawson Jacobsma (6th, 17:21.71), Andy Taverna of Sibley-Ocheyedan (10th, 17:36.97) and Mitchel Van Gorp of Sheldon (20th, 18:06.60).
Sheldon’s Anna Marie Fjeld placed fifth overall in the girls race in 21:11.57. Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Emily Jungers was 13th in 22:17.50. Sheldon’s Anessa Schoo was 14th in 22:21.94.
Five Sheldon runners placed in the top 20. Mackenzie Wagner was 17th (22:41.26), Emma Van Meeteren was 18th (22:46.46) and Sarah Cain was 20th (22:54.41).

Doug Wolter joined the Worthington Globe in December of 1983 as a sports reporter. He later became sports editor, and then news editor and managing editor. In 2006 he moved to Mankato with his wife, Sandy, and served as an editor at the Mankato Free Press.
