DES MOINES, Iowa - George-Little Rock distance runner Joe Anderson placed fifth Saturday in the Class 1A 1,600-meter race at the Iowa High School state track and field meet.
Anderson toured the course at Drake University in a time of 4:36.09.
Riley Bauer of North Union won the event in 4:25.95.
Northwest Iowa got a sixth-place finish in Class 2A from the Sibley-Ocheyedan shuttle hurdle relay team of Kyle Lowe, Garrett Sayler, Colvin Jenness and Carson Marco. The foursome ran the race in 1:00.15.
Jaden Kleinhesselink of Sheldon finished seventh in the boys Class 2A 800-meter run, coming in with a time of 1:59.02. Monticello’s Matt Manternach was the winner in 1:52.77.
In girls events, Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Jill Berkland, Erin Schwarzkopf, Jada Carlson and Peyton Crichton ran the 800-meter sprint relay finals Saturday in 1:54.64. That placed them 15th overall.
The Sibley-Ocheyedan 4 by 100-meter shuttle team of Carlson, Berkland, Schwarzkopf and Jillian Bosma was disqualified in the finals.
