DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Sibley-Ocheyedan High School wrestling team, after placing fifth in the team portion of the Iowa state Class 1A team tournament Wednesday, are flexing their collective muscles again in the individual tournament.
The Generals sent four wrestlers into the semifinals of the tourney on Friday: Dylan Schuck at 145 pounds, Trent Kruger at 170, Hunter Dejong at 195 and Matt Naig at 285.
Today, Schuck will wrestle for a championship. Kruger, Dejong and Naig still hope to get thirds.
Schuck pinned Austin Eilers of LABR in 1:00 in his quarterfinal match. He then pinned Trey Brisker of Wilton in 3:34 in his semifinal match on Friday and today will wrestle another senior, Trent Johnson of Dike, for first place.
Kruger, a senior, decisioned Bryce Werderman of Lisbon 6-4 in his quarterfinal on Friday. He then lost to Taylan Entriken of Hudson by fall in 2:40 in the semifinals. Today he will wrestle Gunnar Grunsted of Panora for a chance at the third-place match.

Dejong, a junior, decisioned Walker Even of Gilbertville 7-1 in the quarterfinals Friday before losing in the semifinals in a fall in 1:51 to Britt’s Hunter Hagen. Dejong will contend with Mason Lyons of Belleview today for a chance at third.
Naig, another S-O senior, pinned Paine DeLarm of CASC in the quarterfinals in 1:35. In the semifinals he was defeated 3-1 by North Liberty’s Jared Brinkman. He’ll wrestle Will Anthony of Pleasantville today.
On Thursday, Generals Jose Flores (106) and Trey Schuck (120) were eliminated from further state individual action. Erick Olvera (220) was eliminated on Friday with a loss by fall in 2:28 to Korby Keehner of Luana. Another General, Garrett Sayler (160), lost 4-3 to Griffin McBride of Pleasantville 4-3 in the quarterfinals on Friday, then beat Bryce Schares of Gilbertville with a fall in 1:15 in the wrestlebacks before losing to Gabe Pauley of Avoca in a fall in 1:49.
Sayler will take on Luke Peters of South Lyon today for seventh place.
In Class 2A, Gable Sieperda of Central Lyon/George-Little Rock was pinned in 1:31 Friday in the quarterfinals by Brant O’Shea of Keokuk. Later in the wrestlebacks he decisioned Austin Gutknecht of Clarinda by a 6-1 score.
CL/G-LR wrestlers Seth Deatsch (120), Mitch VanBeek (138) and Austin Winkel (195) are no longer wrestling. Deatsch lost his first match in the wrestlebacks Friday by fall in 2:56 by Kayden Kauzlarich of Centerville. Van Beek lost in the wrestlebacks Friday via technical fall in 3:41 to Quinn Murphy of CCA.
Sheldon/South O’Brien 182-pounder Luke Jenness was pinned by Peyton Nolting of Independence in 47 seconds Friday in the wrestlebacks. He then pinned Dalton Rosenburg of Tama in 5:47 to stay in contention for a medal.
