The result meant that all three of the tournament teams — Jackson, Worthington and St. James — finished 1-1 on the day.

St. James defeated Jackson 7-6 in the first game. Worthington rallied from a 5-0 deficit to beat St. James in the middle contest. And Michelson's seven-hitter put a period on the tourney.

St. James led Worthington 5-0 in the fourth inning, but Post 5 came alive in the bottom of the inning to score six runs. Cooper McCoy slapped a bases-loaded two-run double into the left-center field gap to get the home team on the scoreboard. Brock Bruns and Blake Ahrenstorff singled home an RBI apiece. Bruns later scored on a double steal. And an RBI Tate Gaul single put Worthington ahead 6-5.

Worthington added a single run in the fifth on an error, then scored twice more in the sixth on a Triston Sauerbrei sacrifice fly and a dropped infield pop-up.
McCoy pitched the last three innings for the winners.

Post 5 could not mount a comeback, however, in the final game against Jackson, which moved out to a 4-0 lead before scoring three more runs in the fourth. With a Jackson runner on third base with one out, Payton Handevidt got it going with a beautiful bunt down the third base line that Worthington let roll near the foul line. But it stayed fair, bouncing on the third base bag. Later, with two out, Ben Spaeth hit a two-run double.

Post 5 loaded the bases on Michelson in the fourth inning, but a line-out double play ended the threat with no one scoring. In the sixth, Michelson stranded runners on first and third.

Finally, in the seventh, Worthington ended the shutout on a two-out RBI double by Jake Brandner.

The Worthington Senior Legion team will play at Adrian Monday night.
