Jackson wins a pair Sunday, Heron Lake comes from behind to defeat Fox Lake, 3-2 (amateur baseball round-up)

JACKSON -- The Jackson Bulls scored two runs in the first inning and held on for a victory over Heron Lake Sunday in an amateur baseball tilt.

Ben Rops earned the victory for Jackson (11-5), allowing no runs on four hits while walking four and striking out four.

Matt Franks suffered the loss for Heron Lake, allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking one and striking out three.

For Jackson, Jon Hummel had two hits, drove in a run and scored a run, while Jared Rahe had a hit and drove in a run.

For Heron Lake, Tyler Leopold, Ike Rogers and Thomas Albrecht each had a single, while Jerrad Meinders had a double.

JACKSON -- Behind a strong pitching performance from Ryan Rasche, the Jackson Bulls made a clean sweep Sunday.

Rasche allowed one run on five hits while walking one and striking out 10 batters.

Jordan Lewis had three hits, drove in a run and scored a run, while Rahe had two hits, scored twice and had two RBIs.

Jackson will travel to St. James Tuesday before heading to Spencer, Iowa Wednesday.

HL 3, Fox Lake 2

WELCOME -- With two runs in the top of the seventh, the Heron Lake Lakers came away with a one-run victory Sunday.

Albrecht earned the victory for the Lakers (5-12, 5-14), allowing no runs on four hits in three innings of work.

Meinders started on the hill for HL, and threw four innings.

Rogers had three singles in the game, drove in the game tying run and then scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch for the Lakers.

Meinders had a pair of hits, while Albrecht had a single to lead off the seventh inning.

Franks also drew a pair of walks for HL, who will travel to Mountain Lake Sunday.

HADLEY -- The Adrian A's scored early and often in a 10-run victory late Saturday night.

Cody Kontz earned the victory for Adrian on the hill, while Matt Gades threw two innings of relief.

Levi Bullerman had three hits for Adrian, while Jason Stubbe had four hits, including a three-run home run.

Jordon Kontz added three hits for the A's, and had a two-run home run.

For Hadley (6-8, 9-11), Joe Larson had four hits and drove in two runs, while Max Zwart had two hits. James Wajer drove in four runs for the Buttermakers.

HADLEY -- The Buttermakers managed just four hits Sunday and fell to Marshall by four runs.

Zwart suffered the loss for the Buttermakers, allowing five earned runs on eight hits while striking out three.

Tim Haberman had a home run, while Ben Clarke, Zwart and Luke Beers each had a hit for Hadley.

Wilmont 6, Hadley 3

HADLEY -- Wilmont's Justin Saufley pitched out of a bases-loaded jam to preserve the Cardinal lead as Wilmont went on to a victory Sunday against Hadley.

Saufley picked up the save in two innings of work. Aaron Johnson started the game for Wilmont and threw the first five innings.

Paul Counter suffered the loss for Hadley, allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out two.

Jay Scheidt had a pair of hits, while Sam Baumgartner had a single and drove in two runs. Jeremy Irlbeck also had an RBI for the Cardinals.

For Hadley, Zwart had three hits, while Wajer and Larson each had two hits. Haberman also cracked a solo home run for Hadley, who will travel to Tracy Wednesday.

Adrian 6, Luverne 2

ADRIAN -- The A's utilized seven stolen bases in the third inning to score six runs, and Kevin Nowotny threw six solid innings to lead Adrian to victory Sunday.

Nowotny allowed one run on three hits while walking three and striking out two, and had a three-pitch inning in the top of the fourth after Adrian scored six runs in the previous half inning.

David Hoffer threw the final inning for Adrian.

Andrew DeBoer suffered the loss for Luverne, allowing six runs in three innings.

Joe Kruger had two singles and drove in a run, while Levi Bullerman had two hits. Cody Kontz added an RBI single for the A's (9-8.)

For Luverne, Jared Pick had a single while Wyatt Cody had an RBI double.

Adrian will host Pipestone Wednesday.
