JACKSON — Jackson County Central in the Gold division, Luverne in the Silver division and Westbrook in the Bronze division won championships Saturday in the Carolyn Hummel Invitational Volleyball Tournament in Jackson.
The tournament, named for longtime high school coach and girls sports pioneer Carolyn Hummel, brought together many teams from the southwest Minnesota area.
Jackson County Central defeated Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda 20-25, 25-22, 15-9 in the Gold championship match. Luverne bested New Ulm 25-20, 25-19 in the Silver championship match, and Westbrook-Walnut Grove topped Martin County West 25-21, 25-19 in the Bronze championship match.
JCC opened pool play with a 2-1 win over Triton, then defeated New Ulm 2-0 and Murray County Central 2-0. The Huskies opened the Gold bracket with a 2-0 sweep of Windom Area.
HL-O/F had a strong tournament overall, beating Martin County West 25-18 and 25-16, beating Windom Area 25-14 and 26-24, beating W-WG 27-25 and 25-19, and beating Worthington 25-11, 25-17.
