COON RAPIDS -- Shooting accurately from the field and from the free throw line, and getting good balance, the Minnesota West Community and Technical College women’s basketball team outplayed Mesabi Range Saturday night in its first Region 13 contest and advanced to Sunday’s (Feb. 27) championship game.
Playing on the campus of Anoka-Ramsey Community College, the Lady Jays earned a 90-67 victory over Mesabi by hitting 48.6 percent of their field goals and 18 of 22 from the free throw line. They were 4-for-14 from 3-point range.

Mackensie Post scored 11 points with four steals and four assists. Tia Murray had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Madisyn Huisman scored 14 points, Dannyn Peterson 13, Hunter Garcia 10, Madie Werdel 8 and Emily Breske 7 for the winners.

Bonnie Taylor led Mesabi Range with 23 points.
Minnesota West (16-12) will take on Anoka-Ramsey, a 73-70 victor over Northland on Saturday, in Sunday’s championship game at Coon Rapids. Game time is 5 p.m.
