Lady Jays aiming high in Region 13 Tournament; Four named All-Division

The Minnesota West women's softball team opens Region 13 competition Thursday in Cambridge against top-seeded Anoka-Ramsey.

For all of the 2021 spring fast-pitch softball season, the Minnesota West Lady Jays have played while shorthanded. That will be the case again on Thursday as Coach Jeff Jager's team enters Region 13 competition in Cambridge.

But Jager has won as many as he's lost during the regular season, and at times his team has looked impressive. On Wednesday, he seemed plenty optimistic about the 9-player team he'll bring to Thursday's noon playoff opener against Anoka-Ramsey.

"We're coming off probably the best three or four days of practice for the year," he said. "We're ready to go and make some noise."

Anoka-Ramsey is the No. 1 seed. Minnesota West is seeded No. 4. The other two teams are North Dakota State College of Science and St. Cloud Tech. If the Lady Jays win their first tournament game against Anoka-Ramsey, they will play again on Thursday at 4 p.m. If they lose, they play in the loser's bracket at 2 p.m. The tournament concludes on Friday.

This week, four Minnesota West players were named to the 2021 All-Southern Division softball team. They include Steph Kazemba, Grace Suttle, Bri Ihnen and Emily Wilke.
