Lady Jays lose 17-2 to Cyclones in softball

St. Cloud Technical and Community College collected 18 hits in five innings. The Lady Jays broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fifth inning.

WORTHINGTON — The Minnesota West Lady Jays played the St. Cloud Technical and Community College Cyclones on Friday afternoon.

The Cyclones offense hummed, scoring runs in all five innings en route to a 17-2 win.

Julia Schmoker pitched all five innings for the Lady Jays. She allowed 18 hits, walked three and struck out three.

The Cyclones’ pitcher was Kamille Dougherty. Dougherty struck out eight, allowed four hits and had two walks. Dougherty helped her cause by raking from the plate. She had three hits, including a home run and two doubles. She had four RBIs and two runs scored.

Justice Boyer had five RBIs on two hits. Tyra Myers had three hits and three RBIs.

The Lady Jays broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fifth by scoring two runs. Torrence Clelland hit a single which scored Jaenid Torres and Makenzie Allen. Torry Buchmann had a hit and a walk for the Lady Jays.

The Lady Jays will play their next game at home on Tuesday against Rochester Community and Technical College. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 3:00 p.m.
