Lady Jays suffer two losses

WORTHINGTON -- In two high-scoring games, St. Cloud Technical College swept Minnesota West in a MCCC Southern Division softball doubleheader Saturday.

WORTHINGTON -- In two high-scoring games, St. Cloud Technical College swept Minnesota West in a MCCC Southern Division softball doubleheader Saturday.

St. Cloud took the first game 15-10, and then rallied in the final inning for a 15-14 victory in Game 2.

In the first game, St. Cloud jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first three innings and held off a furious comeback from the Lady Jays.

Mel Anderson suffered the loss, allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits while walking six and striking out seven in five innings of work.

Ashley DeBates (two RBI) had a pair of hits, including an inside-the-park home run.

Marie Pavelko had a pair of hits, while Dani Jo Thorson and GP Vaske each had a pair of hits and drove in two runs.

The Lady Jays (3-9, 3-9) had a 12-9 lead heading into the seventh inning, but could not hold on in a one-run defeat in the second game Saturday.

Trailing 9-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Lady Jays scored 11 runs in the inning to take a 12-9 lead into the last inning.

However, MW surrendered six runs in the top of the seventh and couldn't recover in the defeat.

Cassie Miller suffered the loss, allowing eight earned run, while walking six.

Dani Moore and Thorson each had three hits, while DeBates (double, home run), Miller (two RBI), Stacy Bush and Ashley Neperman (three runs, two triples) all had two hits in the game.

The Lady Jays will be at Riverland today.
