ADRIAN -- During the high school baseball season, the Adrian Dragons made their mark at the state tournament using solid pitching, sturdy defense and timely hitting.
On Tuesday, the Adrian American Legion team exhibited all three of those qualities in a 1-0 nine-inning victory over Worthington.
Alex Loosbrock went the distance with a one-hitter on the mound. His teammates made key defensive plays behind him. And after the first two Adrian hitters made outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, the home team found a way to win.
A strikeout and a ground out started Adrian’s half of the ninth. But Ryan Wieneke singled, Jake Stamer doubled and Landon Rogers was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Logan Rogers then lofted a deep drive to left-center field that fell in for the game-winning RBI.

“I think we had three double-plays get us out of trouble,” said Adrian coach Lance Rogers. “Our walks was what hurt us.”
The only hit Loosbrock allowed was a fifth-inning single by Post 5’s Nate Braaksma. He struck out nine batters but walked eight.
“He was wildly effective. Let’s put it that way,” coach Rogers said of his pitcher.
After two walks in the first inning, Adrian got out of a jam with its first double-play. Worthington had base runners on third base in both the eighth and ninth innings but couldn’t score.
Tucker Sorensen was the hard-luck pitcher who went the full nine innings for Worthington. He allowed seven hits, walking two, hitting one batter and striking out five.
Logan Rogers had three of Adrian’s seven hits. Stamer and Zach Loosbrock doubled.
Adrian is 2-0 on the summer season.
