PIPESTONE - The Division 2 Sub-District 2 tournament opened on Friday with Edgerton and Pipestone earning trips to this morning’s title game.
Edgerton, the No. 4-seed, made it to the semifinals when fifth-seeded Slayton forfeited their pigtail game. Post 42 used that opportunity to defeat top-ranked Luverne 7-2. In the other semifinal game, No. 2 Pipestone knocked No. 3 Heron Lake-Okabena into the second-place bracket with a 7-3 win. Post 608 bounced back with a 5-2 win over Slayton to keep its season alive. HL-O plays Luverne in an elimination game at 1 p.m. today with the top two teams from the tournament advancing to districts.

Edgerton 7, Luverne 2
Post 42 scored three runs in both of the first two innings to go up 6-0 on the Cardinals. They never recovered.
Though Nick Overgaard gave Post 123 a strong effort in relief, the offense couldn’t get much done against Wyatt Butson.
“It was a rough game, period,” Luverne coach Barry Shelton said.
Butson went all seven to earn the win for Edgerton. Tommy Vajgrt pitched one inning and was stuck with the loss for Luverne.
