Luverne Cardinals compete in section tennis

ST. PETER -- The Luverne High School girls tennis team competed in Section 3A competition Thursday and Friday to mixed results.

In individual play, Luverne's Ainslie Robinson defeated Kaydince Thoms of Sleepy Eye 6-1, 6-0 in the first round, then lost to Briana Joseph of Fairmont in the quarterfinals, 6-0, 6-3.

Teammate Mela Jarchow lost her first match 6-1, 6-0 to Luci Kulseth of St. James.

In doubles, Luverne's Roz Oye and Elise Jarchow defeated Pipestone Area's Skylar Mendro and Mataya Douty 6-0, 6-1 in their first match, but lost later to Abby Bruegger and Olivia Pfeffer of Maple River by a 6-1, 6-1 score. Luverne's Solveig Tofteland and Lauren Ver Steeg lost their first doubles match to Trinity Seedorf and Alyson Swanson of United South Central, 6-3, 6-2.

In section team action on Thursday, Blue Earth Area beat Luverne 6-1. Tofteland and Ver Steeg captured the Cardinals' only win.
